📚✨ Cherry Crest Library  ✨📚

Welcome to the Cherry Crest Library

We’re excited to welcome our new librarian, Ms. Elizabeth Roberts! This year, students will begin using self-checkout in the library. It’s a great way for them to build independence and confidence so they can check out books during class visits and during open library time.

Contact: Ms. Elizabeth Roberts — robertse@bsd405.org

Volunteer Opportunities

We’d love your help keeping books moving quickly back onto shelves and supporting our youngest readers as they learn self-checkout.

1) Morning Check-In & Shelving

  • When: 8:00–9:00 AM (school days)

  • What: Check in returned books and re-shelve so students can find them during their library time.

👉 Volunteer Signup (SignupGenius)

2) K/1 Self-Checkout Helpers (Mon/Tue/Fri)

  • Kindergarten: 12:20–1:00 PM

  • 1st Grade: 1:00–1:45 PM

  • What: Stand by to guide students through the self-checkout steps.

👉 Volunteer Signup (SignupGenius)

More projects coming soon! We’ll be reorganizing and rearranging sections of the library. A Marapod (or SignupGenius) link will be shared once dates are set. Stay tuned!

Student Self-Checkout: What to Expect

  • Students scan their library card and the book barcode.

  • K–1 will receive hands-on help as they learn the process.

  • Please remind students to bring books back on time so others can enjoy them.

Scholastic Book Fair (Tentative)

We’re tentatively penciled in for the week of March 9.
Details (volunteer shifts, setup/takedown, eWallets, classroom previews) will be posted once confirmed.

Pacific Northwest Library Association – YRCA 2026 Nominees

At Cherry Crest we use the Jr. nominees as an additional book award presented to students in December or January for those 4th and 5th graders (and some 3rd graders) who want and/or need an extra reading challenge.

SASQUATCH READING CHALLENGE

2026 Sasquatch Nominees

Librarian challenges all 4th and 5th graders to read the 12 nominees by June 1st each year. Students who do this AND complete their Sasquatch form (signed by a parent/guardian and teacher) are invited to a celebration in the library.

TOWNER NONFICTION AWARD

All 3rd and 4th graders at CC will read these 10 picture books during the library throughout the school year and vote for a favorite in the Spring.  All students K-5 have access to check them out.

*All award books are available online for BSD students at https://soraapp.com/library/bsdwa

This amazing resource is paid for by BSD and allows our students to access these wonderful books online, including many as audiobooks.
